Custom Built Computers Knowing Processors
Understanding a CPUs Power When Purchasing a Custom built computer
The most important measurement for all custom built computers tends to be the
processor that is running on the computer. Normally it would say the model,
speed and brand of the processor in the spec sheet, but the marketing knowledge
may only list its speed ranking. This could carry it towards a difficult way
to determine how good a custom built computer is. Though, one processor runs
at different speed when compare to different model of the same manufacturer.
This list of categories is very helpful to know how functional each processor
is.
Out-of-date Processors
This category contains the processors that are no longer produced
by the manufacturers and are normally sold in either lower budget custom built
computers or older custom built PCs. These processors would take too longer
to run heavy application and presumably might not even run some of today’s
soft wares.
Always try to ignore custom built computers with these processors
if you need performing custom built computer.
- Intel Celeron (Without the D Model Numbers)
- Intel Pentium 4 (non-Socket T)
- Intel Pentium III
- AMD Athlon 64 (Socket 754)
- AMD Athlon XP
- AMD Duron
Budget Processors
These processors also may not be in the production anymore by the manufacturers
but are very functional and cheap. This category basically contains two sorts
of processors: older high-end CPUs are not manufactured these days and new low
end budget CPUs. They might have lower clock speed; the structural design of
the CPU tends to permit them to perform better at heavy computing tasks than
newer budget processors.
- Intel Celeron D 300 Series
- Intel Pentium 4 (Socket T)
- Intel Pentium D 805 Through 820
- AMD Athlon 64
- AMD Sempron 64
Value Processors
This category contains presumably the best overall value for your money. These
are the processors were on the top spot 6 to 9 months ago before getting the
sweet spot due to launch of new processors. Now they are not the fastest CPUs
in the market, they still provides better speed in every facet of computing.
- Intel Pentium D 900 Series
- Intel Core 2 Duo
- AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ to 4600+ (Socket AM2)
Top Processors
Talk about the best! Yeah this category contains the cream of processing power.
If you really need the best CPU out there for your new custom built computer
than nothing is better than processors in this category. Though, they are costly.
While here the power is double so as price, the performance is 25-50% more at
their counterparts.
- Intel Core 2 Extreme
- AMD Athlon 64 FX
- AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+
