| Arbico Update on the Sandybridge chipset recall by Intel |
Arbico shares the disappointment of PC enthusiasts all over the world at Intel's announcement of the faulty SATA 2 controller on the P67/H67 motherboards and the subsequent announcement of the recall of these motherboard by various manufacturers.
There is a faulty SATA controller on these motherboards that only affects the SATA 2 ports and not the SATA 3 ports.
Arbico Computers will continue to offer custom built Sandybridge PCs based on the Asus P8P67 motherboards which have four SATA 3 ports. All Sandybridge computers we ship will also feature an additional PCI based SATA II card to provide extra SATA 2 ports. This should provide plenty of SATA ports for current and future requirements for those customers who choose to go ahead with an Intel Sandybride based PC.
The reason we will continue to offer Sandybridge PCs is that quite a few customers have indicated that they consider this to be a minor issue and still want to order PCs based on these fantastic CPUs despite the recall announced by Intel. At Arbico Computers we always want our customers to make an informed decision but we also want to leave the final choice to the customer.
All Sandy Bridge based PCs will be checked thoroughly before shipment to ensure that they work perfectly well with the hard drives / optical drives that they are provided with.
Finally, please note that we will not be able to take back any Sandy Bridge PCs once delivered to resolve this particular issue and they will not be sent to Intel as part of its recall. We will obviously provide warranty against all other usual issues and only this specific issue, that customers are being made aware of prior to purchase, will be excluded from our standard warranty terms.
